Ch. 14 Summary in Intro to PR

This chapter discusses the importance of news releases, media alerts, and pitch letters. The news release is the most frequently used Public Relations tactic. They “are sent to journalists and editors for possible use in the news columns, and they are the source for a large percent of articles that are published” (PR: Strategies and Tactics, 387). Media alerts allow journalists to be informed about upcoming events news conferences and photo or interview opportunities. Pitch letters are e-mails, letters, or even telephone calls that give journalists and editors story ideas about their employer or client.
